CasaPound

The populist movement CasaPound in Italy exists for ten years now. It is rooted in the historical fascism of the 1920s years, when the Italian fascism was not a regime yet, but a movement with revolutionary face, which used terror and violence to take over political power. The supporters of CasaPound call themselves “i fascisti del terzo millennio” (the fascists of the 3rd millennium). They act with aggressive social demands, trivial anti-capitalism and national revolutionary slogans. They stage themselves as a right wing social opposition and work on the aftereffects of the current economic crisis. CasaPound managed to grow from Rome to whole Italy utilizing a wide offering of social, cultural and political activities. To the outside CasaPound pictures itself as a diverse and dynamic movement, by adopting forms of action from subcultural and radical lefts, by using pop culture aesthetic and lifestyle and by using a youth-friendly appearance. From the inside however, it is still guided by an authoritarian leadership model.
